Steve Monaghan: Rural California Counties Have a Digital Equity Problem

With billions of dollars flowing from both the State and Federal government for broadband deployment, the need for Digital Equity planning has come to the forefront. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) requires States, in order to draw down $42 billion in Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) funding, to have a plan for ensuring historically disenfranchised populations, including residents in rural areas, have access to reliable highspeed connectivity.

Giving Tree Program A Huge Success!

The holidays will be merrier this year for Nevada County’s foster children, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, nonprofits, and residents. Nevada County Child Welfare Services’ annual Giving Tree Program collected gifts for 132 children, provided 70 families with food baskets, and provided household furniture to a family in need.

Caltrans Reminds Motorists of Safe Driving Tips for Foggy Conditions

Motorists are reminded to plan for extra travel time and remember safe driving tips for foggy conditions this holiday season.

The National Weather Service is predicting areas of dense fog through this week and the long holiday weekend in the Sacramento Valley and northern portions of the San Joaquin Valley. Motorists may experience travel delays at times because of low visibility.

County Offices Closed Monday for Christmas Holiday

All County administrative offices will be closed on Monday, December 26th, for the Christmas holiday.

Public safety and Sheriff's patrol services will continue as normal. Normal business hours for other offices will resume on Tuesday, December 27th.

Rewatch the Idaho Maryland Mine Economic Impact Report Webinar

In response to community requests, the Nevada County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Robert D. Niehaus, Inc. (RDN) to conduct an independent economic study on the proposed Idaho Maryland Mine Project to estimate the economic and fiscal impacts on local businesses, residential property values, utility providers, public services, and tax revenues.

On December 15th, Nevada County hosted a webinar to provide an overview of the purpose and findings of the report and answer questions submitted by community members. A recording of the webinar is now available to watch online.
