Nevada County and Sierra Roots Open Cold Weather Shelter Saturday through Monday NightsThe National Weather Service predicts continued wet weather Saturday through Monday nights, January 7th, 8th, and 9th. Considering the weather prediction, Sierra Roots and the County of Nevada are activating the Cold Weather Shelter Protocol for those three nights.
The shelter will open at 4:30 p.m. on all three nights at the Nevada City Veterans Hall (lower level), located at 415 North Pine Street. The shelter will accept guests until 8:00 p.m. and close at 7:30 each morning. This is a community-wide collaborative effort to temporarily shelter one of our most vulnerable populations during extreme weather events and connects homeless residents to additional services.

Take Action: Help Update the FCC's Broadband Maps!The Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) new National Broadband Map shows internet availability at each household and small business around the nation. For the first time, the FCC is asking for consumer input! Go to BroadbandMap.gov and search for your address to see if the data they have is correct. If the reported service or speed is unavailable, submit a challenge to correct the map.
These maps will drive future waves of federal funding for broadband expansion, so correcting mistakes is crucial. The FCC is asking for corrections to be submitted by January 13th, so please take action now.

Community Survey: Help Identify the Needs of People with Low IncomeThe Nevada County Adult and Family Services Commission plans and implements programs to assist people with low income in Nevada County through the use of Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding. Every three years, the Commission creates a comprehensive community needs assessment to help identify the top five needs in the county and guide the planning of services for low-income families in Nevada County.
As part of the community assessment, the Commission is conducting a short survey to better understand the community’s needs. Funding Opportunity: Mental Health Services ActThe Mental Health Services Act (MHSA)-Prop 63 was passed by California Voters in 2004. The proposition is funded by a 1% tax on personal income over $1 million per year with the goal of utilizing the funds to expand and transform California’s behavioral health system to better serve individuals with and at risk of serious mental health issues and their families.
Nevada County Behavioral Health is developing the 3-year plan for MHSA programming for Fiscal Year 23/24 through Fiscal Year 25/26. As part of the planning process, counties are called to engage in a competitive Request for Information (RFI) process for MHSA providers.
Three separate RFIs have been released to correspond with the three primary programming categories of MHSA services. The RFIs include: - Community Service and Supports (CSS) Programming
- Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) Programming in Western Nevada County

At the beginning of the meeting, before public comment, Supervisors will hold a moment of silence in memory of the twenty-second anniversary of the January 10, 2001 tragic incident at the Behavioral Health Department, HEW Building and Lyons Restaurant. Supervisors will then select the chair and vice chair for 2023 and recognize outgoing Board Chair Sue Hoek.
Following public comment and the consent calendar, Supervisors will consider a resolution adopting Nevada County’s 2023 Legislative Platform. They will then hear an informational presentation on Community Resiliency Grant Awards funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).
Supervisors will then consider a resolution appointing Gina Will as Auditor-Controller to fill the vacancy due to the Court's ruling disqualifying the Elected Auditor-Controller, effective January 11, 2023, and through the term ending January 2027.
At 11:15 a.m., Supervisors will hear a presentation on the Truckee Chamber of Commerce’s current activities.
At 1:30 p.m., following a recess for lunch, Planning Director Brian Foss will lead a public hearing to consider the Nevada County Planning Commission’s recommendations regarding the County’s Commercial Cannabis Cultivation Ordinance.
