Nevada County Advocates for Local Issues in D.C. Vice-Chair and District 5 Supervisor Hardy Bullock met with California and Nevada County’s federal representatives and agencies in Washington D.C. this past week while attending the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2023 Legislative Conference. In addition to critical meetings with Nevada County’s congress members and senators while in D.C., the conference focuses on federal policy issues that impact counties and their residents and included a special session with President Biden that discussed the critical role local government has in the everyday lives of America. “A highlight was meeting with Nevada County’s representatives to advocate for important local issues like wildfire and forest management, public lands and increased visitation to our recreational areas, and workforce housing,” said Bullock. “These initial conversations will allow us to continue advocating and increasing their understanding of issues affecting Nevada County and other rural counties while they are looking at policy and budget decisions.” In addition to the Board of Supervisors 2023 Objectives, Supervisors also adopt a Legislative Platform that advocates for the County’s top policy objectives and funding for infrastructure needs. For 2023, the Board has identified agriculture, environment, natural resources, housing, land use, transportation, health and human services, and others as important federal legislative and regulatory priorities.

Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency Announces New Strategic DirectionThe Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency Board of Directors approved a five-year strategic plan on January 18th, 2023. The Plan sets forth a bold roadmap to expand services, programs, and funding for housing the local workforce. Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency (TTWHA) is a new joint powers authority formed in 2020 by four public agencies to address the housing needs of their employees. Today, the Agency has grown to include seven public agencies, including Nevada County, Placer County, Tahoe Forest Hospital District, Tahoe Truckee Unified School District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, Truckee Tahoe Airport District, and the Town of Truckee. In 2022, recognizing the region’s growing housing needs, the Agency determined that the founding mission, to serve the employees of its member agencies, needed to expand in order to better serve the entire community. “We care deeply about the region's rapidly growing housing challenges. Our 2023 Strategic Plan outlines a framework that includes six targets, goals, and objectives to help us pursue housing solutions for our Truckee-Tahoe community. We hope to make a material improvement in workforce housing in the years to come,” stated Harry Weis, CEO of Tahoe Forest Hospital District and TTWHA Board Chair.
