County partnering with Zero Foodprint to coordinate rebate program

Compost Connector Program is open for 2025!  Nevada County farmers and ranchers are invited to apply for a rebate for five or more tons of compost through the Nevada County Compost Connector Program.

The rebate program is hosted by Zero Foodprint in partnership with Nevada County Solid Waste. Zero Foodprint is a California nonprofit with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint of the food industry in the state.

The program is open to any interested Nevada County farmer or rancher through an application process for a rebate of up to $39/ton. Once the application is approved, compost must be purchased through an approved supplier list for a minimum purchase amount of five tons. Rebates will be reimbursed after verification that compost has been received and applied.

The County is offering the program as part of the procurement requirements of Senate Bill 1383, which requires cities and counties to annually acquire quantities of recovered organic waste products such as compost to help strengthen the State’s green economy.
