Planning Commission Recommends RV Housing Ordinance in 3-2 Vote

Home Posted on November 20, 2025

The Nevada County Planning Commission voted 3–2 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors adopt a draft ordinance that would allow recreational vehicles (RVs) to be used as residential units on certain properties in the unincorporated county. The Nov. 13 vote included an amendment requesting that County staff provide the Board with additional information on fire insurance considerations and code-enforcement capacity.

The draft ordinance was first released in late August and would allow RVs as additional dwelling units (ADUs) on parcels three acres or larger that contain a permitted single-family home. RV housing would be allowed in residential and rural zoning districts. Permits would be valid for two years and eligible for renewal.

The proposal has generated strong community interest. With the Commission’s recommendation, the ordinance now moves to the Board of Supervisors for consideration. The Board of Supervisors is expected to consider the ordinance in early 2026.
