For the first time since their founding in 1978, Community Beyond Violence (CBV) will soon open the doors to their very own emergency shelter — a permanent, safe haven for survivors of domestic violence and their children in Western Nevada County.
For over four decades, CBV has rented various spaces while holding onto a powerful vision: a place survivors could truly call home — one that offers not just safety, but stability and healing.
To celebrate this milestone, CBV welcomed supporters to their ribbon cutting ceremony at City Hall, in Nevada City on Thursday, Nov.13.
Friends and community partners braved the rain to support this endeavor and highlight the great work done by the CBV team. Several staff from Health and Human Services and the District Attorney’s office were able to join in this celebration.
The new shelter will provide 18 beds for survivors and their children, along with the privacy and peace needed to begin the healing process. Owning this space strengthens CBV’s ability to offer consistent, secure services — now and for generations to come.
“This milestone represents stability and strength — not just for our organization, but for every survivor who walks through our doors,” Allison Bischofberger, Executive Director at Community Beyond Violence, noted.
