The public is invited to attend the free finale of Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Week Friday, Feb. 6 at the Nevada County Government Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City.

Scheduled 5 –7 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors chambers, the event features a live “Shark Tank”-style showcase where teams of high school students will present their creative business ideas to a panel of community judges and compete for cash prizes.

Earlier in the week, the students in grades 9-12 will receive mentorship from local entrepreneurs, business owners and educators. They will gain hands-on experience developing business models, crafting budgets and preparing pitch decks.

Young Entrepreneurs Pitch Week, now in its second year, is sponsored by the Nevada County Economic Development Office. River Valley Bank is returning as the presenting sponsor.

“Today’s student entrepreneurs are tomorrow’s employers, problem-solvers, and community leaders,” said Kimberly Parker, Nevada County’s economic development program manager.  “Attending the finale is very entertaining for audience members and a way for the public to encourage that growth and show that Nevada County values innovation and youth leadership.”

Last year’s winners developed Smart Selection, an app that helps people invest in their health by analyzing the products they eat.
