Nevada County is looking for seven community members to serve on the new Commercial Cannabis Dispensary Evaluation Committee, approved by Board resolution in June.
Committee members will be responsible for implementing a selection process and recommending the most qualified applicants to operate the first retail storefront commercial cannabis dispensaries in unincorporated Nevada County.
“We’re looking for residents who care about ensuring these new businesses are well-run, law-abiding, and positive additions to their communities,” said Matt Kelley, Code and Cannabis Department director.
The evaluation committee will include one member from Districts 1 through 3 and two members from Districts 4 and 5. One cannabis dispensary will be allowed in North San Juan (District 4) and Soda Springs (District 5).
The purpose of the evaluation committee is to establish a competitive, merit-based process for selecting the most qualified applicants to apply for a discretionary use permit through the Nevada County Planning Department.
Top-scoring dispensary applicants will have 12 months to apply for a use permit. Applicants approved for a retail storefront commercial dispensary must obtain a state license, along with all other required local and state permits, prior to operating a cannabis retail business within Nevada County.
