Pacific Crest Commons, a 55-unit affordable apartment complex in Truckee, is now under construction and is expected to open by November 2026.
The Board of Supervisors heard a presentation about the $37.8 million project at its Tuesday meeting in Truckee and later toured the site.
“Truckee’s housing market is among the most expensive in the region, and that puts incredible pressure on the people who live there,” said Supervisor Hardy Bullock, who represents the area. “This project is a critical step toward keeping Truckee livable for everyone, and it shows what’s possible when local governments and partners work together.”
Located on a former California Highway Patrol site on 1.72-acres on 10077 State Route 89 South, the development’s units will be available to residents making 80% of area median income and below. That means anyone in Truckee with a household of four making less than $91,000.
Ten units will be set aside for those making 30% of area median income ($34,150 for a household of four) who are at risk of homelessness. That section of the housing development will be overseen by staff from Nevada County Behavioral Health, who will provide wrap-around services and support.
The complex has laundry facilities, a playground, picnic areas, a public art space and storage areas.
The $37.8 million project was funded from a variety of sources including the state grants and tax credits as well as local matching funds from the Town of Truckee ($1.2 million), Nevada County ($202,722) and other partners.
