The District Attorney’s Office has received a $202,545 grant to pay for a prosecutor and victim advocate to serve women victims of violent crimes.
The grant came from the California Office of Emergency Services and is comprised of Federal Services Training Officers Prosecutors (STOP) funds. This is the second time the District Attorney’s Office has received the grant.
The money will fund half-time of an experienced prosecutor’s workload and a quarter of a victim advocate’s workload.
“It’s been a priority of the office since I’ve taken over to really focus on providing services to victims of violent crimes,” said District Attorney Jesse Wilson. “We try to do everything we can with the resources available.”
The funds will support prosecution of cases involving such crimes as domestic violence and sexual assault. The victim advocate will provide such serves as emotional support, guidance through the legal process and connections to community resources with the aim of alleviating the challenges victims face during legal proceedings.
