Get ready for an afternoon of fun, food, and community spirit at the Nevada County Youth Commission’s 2nd Annual Fun in the Foothills on Saturday, April 26.

The free event is for all ages and runs from 3 to 6 p.m. at Sierra College, 250 Sierra College Drive. It will include games, music, a student art gallery, and booths offering information about community resources and programs, including Bright Futures for Youth, the Nevada Union High School Potter’s Guild and numerous County agencies, including the airport, Public Health and the Office of Emergency Services.

SPD has also donated 200 hot dogs and buns that will be served free to attendees. Activities will include spike ball, volleyball and frisbee.

“It’s really just a day to see what Nevada County has to offer,” said Youth Commissioner Mario LaMarca, who is chair of the event. “There are all sorts of different groups and people putting energy into this event.”

The first Fun in the Foothills was held last June at Pioneer Park. “Fun in the Foothills was an exciting event not only for our commission to put on but for the people who attended,” said Youth Commission Chair Mackenzie Rist. “It was a great opportunity for community connection.”

The Youth Commission is made up of students ages 14-19 from throughout Nevada County. Its mission is to identify, connect and advocate for issues facing Nevada County youth. The commission serves as a bridge between youth and the Board of Supervisors. For more information, visit www.NevadaCountyCa.gov/YouthCommission.
