At the direction of the Board of Supervisors, the Economic Development Office is exploring the feasibility of a business license program for the unincorporated parts of the County. Currently, there are business license programs in Grass Valley, Nevada City, and The Town of Truckee is collaborating with their Chamber on a landscape directory. Those businesses would not be impacted.
More and more businesses are contacting the County because they need a business license, often to secure financing. If adopted, the goal would be to ensure there is value for businesses while remaining simple, cost-effective, and requiring only basic information. A business license program can enhance business legitimacy and credibility, provide vital communication during emergencies, support access to resources, and make it easier to access funding.
The Economic Development Office is seeking input on three options:
- Make no change and do not offer a business license program.
- Offer a business license, but make it optional.
- Implement a standard mandatory business license program.
The annual cost is estimated around $50 annually. Your feedback is important. Please contact the Nevada County Economic Development Office at kimberly.parker@nevadacountyca.gov or (530) 470-2795 to offer your input.
