One hundred and twelve Nevada County employees were honored Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors for reaching service milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 35 years.
Sheriff Shannan Moon was honored for 35 years of service, receiving a standing ovation from the packed Board chambers. Six employees were honored for 25 years of service: Shannon Glaz, health education specialist; Beverly Glenn, Central Services office assistant; Colten Gould, Public Works roads supervisor; Sheriff’s Capt. Robert Jakobs, Corrections; Kathryn Kestler, Public Health nurse, and Brandi McManus, Human Resources senior management analyst.
Several honorees commented that the years went by fast. “I never really expected to be a long timer at Nevada County, but it turned out to be a wonderful job to have while raising my kids,” Glaz said.
Jakobs said he is honored to be able to serve in the community he grew up in and where he is raising his own family. “I’m most proud of the fact that many of the new hires I had the pleasure of training when I was a field training officer in the early 2000’s have gone on to have very successful and fulfilled careers themselves,” he said.
Chair Swarthout recognized employees reaching service milestones this year. “Thank you for the work you do every day to serve our community. Without you, our staff, we couldn’t do this work. You make our jobs as supervisors more rewarding with your professionalism, your knowledge of community issues, and your helpful attitude.”
County Executive Officer Alison Lehman said celebrating years of service is a chance to recognize the people behind the County’s work. “We’re here not just to honor your years of service, but your decision to be a public servant and the contributions you make every day for our residents. I have such great respect and admiration for the work that you do because it is hard work. Thank you for being fantastic at what you do and for showing up each day with such dedication and commitment.”
Supervisors and staff also honored the memory of social services team member Crystal Clark with a moment of silence and recognized her dedication and contributions to the County.
Her husband accepted her 10-year service pin on her behalf, saying, “I do know she loved this job, the people she worked with. She talked about you guys all the time, and she loved the people she helped. I think she liked that the best…You guys are secondary family to her, and by proxy to me, and I want to thank you guys for allowing her to work at a job that she loved."
