Organizations That Can Help
- AARP: AARP (formerly American Association of Retired Persons) provides information and services to the 50 and older population
- FREED: As a non-profit Independent Living Resource Center, our goal is to empower people with disabilities to exercise their civil rights in becoming active, productive members of our community
- Gold Country Senior Services (Grass Valley): Gold Country Community Services, dba Gold Country Senior Services provides a range of programs and services that support the health, well-being, and independence of older adults in our community.
- Sierra Senior Services (Truckee): Sierra Senior Services provides meals to eligible seniors with a medical need who are not able to leave their homes.
- Paratransit Services: Providing transportation for Nevada County seniors and persons with disabilities, enabling them to maintain their independence and participate in the community
- Medicare: Official U.S. Government Site: One-stop source of information, forms, services and nursing home quality indicators
- Nevada County 211: Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency partners with 211 Connecting Point to direct County residents to community resources. 211 offers help with housing and food resources and can help direct you to services for you or your family, such as CalFresh or rental assistance. 211 also provides a Volunteer Hub for opportunities to give back to the community.
- Connecting Point: Assists In-Home Support Services (IHSS) Consumers and Providers in accessing and navigating the IHSS program in Nevada, Sierra, and Plumas counties. . Our goal is to support the independence of seniors and persons with disabilities who choose to live in their own homes.
- HICAP: HICAP (the Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program) provides free and objective information and counseling about Medicare.
- Sierra Services for The Blind: Sierra Services is an advocate for the blind and visually impaired. They provide a comprehensive health program of peer and other counseling support, educational support, social development, and referrals to other community-based programs to foster physical and mental health. They also can provide transportation and provide a library of visual aids.
- Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, Alzheimer’s Outreach Program: Helps support any individual or caregiver suffering from a memory impairment. There are two primary components: educational and clinical.
