Wildlife Services & Information

The mission of Wildlife Services is to safeguard public health and safety, and to protect Nevada County agriculture, industrial and natural resources through the science and practice of wildlife animal damage control.

Wildlife Services Program

Wildlife Services is a cooperative program between the United States Department of Agriculture and Nevada County, and is responsible for managing human-wildlife conflicts with non-domestic animals such as skunks, opossums, raccoons, beavers, coyotes, mountain lions, bears, and damaging birds that pose a threat to human or animal health and safety, or cause damage to property, agriculture or livestock.

The main goal of the program is to resolve conflicts between people and wildlife.

  1. To request assistance from the trapper, contact the Nevada County Department of Agriculture.
  2. Additionally, we recommend you file a Wildlife Incident Report with CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, especially if a depredation permit will be required.

Current Fees

  • Informational and technical assistance - No charge
  • Wildlife response with site assessment - $90 (for wildlife not requiring a depredation permit)
  • Ranch work up to three weeks - $165

We do not have traps to borrow. If you do trap an animal, know that it is illegal to release it away from the property where it was trapped.
