On January 15, Governor Newsom announced that a special election will be held for the California State Senate District 1 seat that was vacated by Ted Gaines. Nevada County and the ten other counties within Senate District 1 are participating in this election.
The special primary election took place on March 26, 2019. No candidate received 50% of the vote plus 1 so a special general election is being held on June 4, 2019.
All registered Nevada County voters will receive a ballot in the mail for the State Senate District 1 General Election.
