The Office of Emergency Services (OES) supports wildfire resilience in Nevada County in a number of ways, such as through planning for emergencies, mitigating hazards, responding to disasters, and assisting the community through recovery. Below are a number of current projects that represent collaborative, on-the-ground mitigation efforts taking place in Nevada County. Through strategic partnerships with non-profits, such as the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County, important large scale hazardous fuel reduction projects are underway like the Ponderosa West Grass Valley Defense Zone and the South County Shaded Fuel Break. In recognition of the County's vulnerability to wildfire, OES has forged new, and strengthened existing, relationships to ensure the pace and scale of wildfire prevention work accelerates. OES, alongside non-profit partners, is drawing down critical resources from grant making agencies such as CAL FIRE, CalOES, Sierra Nevada Conservancy, and FEMA to achieve this work.
