Zip Books
Zip Books, a grant funded program by the California State Library, is a way for individuals to request books that the Library doesn't own. It is an innovative alternative to the traditional interlibrary loan or purchase suggestion. You may request a book or an audiobook that is not available through the Nevada County Library to be delivered to your home, free of charge. The item is shipped directly to you using Amazon Prime.
To be eligible
- The book must not be available in the Nevada County Library catalog.
- The program does not apply to items published in the current year, best sellers or textbooks.
- The book must be available through Amazon, and cost no more than $50 (pre-tax) or $75 for audiobooks or foreign language items.
- Your account must be in good standing, with no outstanding Zip Book items.
To Request an Item
Please complete a Zip Book form online or request a form at a Nevada County Library location. We will only accept one zip book request at a time.

Zip Books for California’s Bookshelf
The California State Library provides access to over 300,000 titles through California's Bookshelf on the Palace Project app. eBooks and eAudiobooks can now be requested as a Zip Book purchase through the State Library's eBooks & eAudiobooks program.
Check Availability
If the title is not already available for checkout or hold in The Palace Project app, then check to see if the title is available for purchase from The Palace Marketplace.
If title is available for purchase, then fill out and submit the "Zip Books Palace Project Form for eBooks & eAudiobooks" using the request forms below:

New titles will be purchased on Wednesdays, and requestors will be emailed when a title is available for download.
Check Out
Please check out the requested title as soon as possible since holds cannot be placed on your behalf.
Palace Project access for Nevada County Library cardholders
For instructions on accessing free eBooks and eAudiobooks through the Palace Project App, visit this page and follow the steps! You will need to search for California's Bookshelf (Nevada County Library is not listed) and create a new "Library Card" through the Palace Project (you cannot use your existing Nevada County Library card number).
