Animal Control

The Nevada County Animal Control Division oversees Animal Control Operations. The Animal Control Division operates under the Nevada County Sheriff's Office and is located in the same building at the Eric Rood Administrative Center.

The goal of animal control officers is to gain compliance through education and, if needed, through the enforcement of applicable laws.

The Nevada County Sheriff's Office Humane Emergency Animal Rescue Team (H.E.A.R.T.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals and their owners in the community who need rescue and evacuation during an emergency.

Shelter Services / Lost Animals

County of Nevada operates the Nevada County Animal Shelter, which contracts with Sammie's Friends, a local animal shelter. The shelter accepts lost animals and facilitates animal adoptions. During emergency evacuations, Sammie's Friends may also serve a safe temporary shelter for animals.
