Nevada County Behavioral Health, in partnership with SPIRIT Peer Empowerment Center, is proud to announce the grand opening of The Commons Resource Center—a new community hub dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness through compassionate care, peer support, and essential services.

The grand opening celebration will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM at 1103 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, CA. All are welcome to attend. The Commons Resource Center will offer day services to Nevada County residents Monday through Saturday from 8:30am – 4:00pm, the center does not offer overnight services and is staffed by Nevada County Behavioral Health and Spirit Empowerment Center staff.

The Commons Resource Center is part of Nevada County’s broader effort to address homelessness by creating safe, accessible spaces where individuals can connect with resources, build relationships, and begin their journey toward stability and wellness. The center will offer peer-led support, behavioral health services, and a variety of services to assist individuals experiencing homelessness, all designed to meet people where they are.

The Commons Resource Center will be located just down the street from Hospitality House, a key partner in bringing forward this project.

"The Commons Resource Center brings behavioral health, peer support, and essential county services under one roof, creating a more coordinated and compassionate response. It’s a powerful example of what happens when government and community partners work together to meet people where they are," said Supervisor Lisa Swarthout.

SPIRIT Peer Empowerment Center will provide free, peer-led services focused on recovery, empowerment, and advocacy for those facing housing insecurity and mental health challenges.

“This center is a vital step forward in our commitment to supporting people experiencing homelessness,” said Jennifer Morrill, Executive Director SPIRIT. “It’s a place where individuals can find safety, dignity, and the support they need to move forward.”
