New and expecting parents can receive support throughout the year with free classes offered by Nevada County Public Health’s Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health program.
“Becoming a parent brings both excitement and uncertainty, and families deserve support during this important transition,” said Jeana McHugh, Maternal, Child & Adolescent Health coordinator. “These classes are designed to help parents feel more confident, prepared, and connected—from learning newborn care and lifesaving skills to building a sense of community. The goal is to ensure families know they are supported and do not have to navigate this journey alone.”
Classes and events include:
- “Becoming Us” – Four-session course that helps strengthen the relationship of parents-to-be, including navigating expectations and communication. Start dates: Jan. 22, April 2, July 9, Oct. 1
- “Prenatal Breastfeeding” – Expectant parents can learn about latching, positioning, milk production and more before the baby comes. Feb. 26, May 7, Aug. 13, Nov. 5
- “Baby Basics” – Gain confidence with evidence-based instruction on feeding, soothing and partner support. Feb. 19, April 30, Aug. 6, Oct. 29
- “Infant/Child CPR” – Learn essential life-saving skills, including choking relief and emergency response. March 3, May 12, Aug. 18, Nov. 10
- Community Baby Shower – Expectant and new parents can receive baby essentials, parenting guidance and more. Sept. 16.
