Nevada County Awarded Funding to Provide Rent, Mortgage, and Utility Assistance to Eligible Residents

Nevada City, CA - Nevada County Housing and Community Services has funding available to help with rent, mortgage, and utility assistance for households financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The application is currently open and will be processed on a first come, first served basis.

“Financial assistance for housing is a key prevention strategy to keep people from slipping into homelessness,” says Ryan Gruver, Health and Human Services Agency Director. “This funding can directly support households on the brink of eviction or need extra support to stay in their houses.”

Priority will be given to those at risk of homelessness who are behind on rent or mortgage payments, or have an eviction notice for non-payment. Eligible households may qualify for as much as $2,000 per month for up to three months, and can pay any current or overdue rent, mortgage, or utilities.

“This funding will help people and families that are still struggling financially because of the pandemic,” says Mike Dent, Nevada County Housing and Community Services Director. “Our goal is to help keep people housed during a stressful financial time.”

Eligibility Requirements

Income limits are set by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). To be eligible for the program, applicants must have an income at or below 80% of the area median income. For a household of one person, income can be as high as $55,100 annually, and a family of four can earn up to $78,000 and qualify for the program. More information about income limits can be found on the Nevada County Housing and Community Services website.

Since the program funding is specific to financial hardships caused by the pandemic, documentation that shows loss of income from COVID-19 is required.

More Information

Funding is available through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, administered through the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for COVID-19 financial relief.

Everyone who faced financial hardships due to the pandemic and meets the eligibility requirements is encouraged to apply. Residents can submit their application and learn more about the program and the application on the Nevada County Housing and Community Services website. For questions about the application process, contact Nevada County Housing and Community Services at housing@nevadacountyca.gov.
