What We Do
Nevada County Public Health offers confidential testing, as well as case management services to our community members who are living with AIDS or who are HIV positive. These services are confidential and focus on supporting the client in maintaining their health and well-being.
PReP: A new level of HIV prevention!
Nevada County Public Health offers free, confidential testing for HIV and Hepatitis C. Please call/text 530-388-6364 or 530-557-5941 for more information or to make an appointment- more information on our testing clinic. Clinic is also open to walk-ins on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. This program is funded by the generous support of NorCal AIDS Cycle.
NorCal AIDS Cycle raises most of their funds via a bike road race held every May. If you are interested in participating, either as a rider or a crew member, please contact them and you will be helping to support our HIV & Hep C Testing and Counseling program and many other important programs across Northern California.
Case Management Services
Nevada County Public Health provides case management services for individuals living with AIDS or HIV and their families. Case management services are focused on supporting the health and well-being of our community members living with AIDS or HIV.
These services may include direct assistance with outpatient and ambulatory health services; housing (including short-term rental or mortgage assistance), short-term assistance with utility payments, prevention of homelessness, assistance with paying for medical prescriptions, oral health care referrals, health insurance premium and cost sharing assistance for low-income individuals, home health care, medical nutrition therapy, hospice services, mental health services, substance abuse outpatient care, and medical case management services.
Funding
Funding sources for case management include: Ryan White HIV / AIDS Program; AIDS Drug Assistant Program (ADAP); Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA); and local funding from CARE Foundation Grant and Unity in the Gold Country.

Color Health is proud to offer free PrEP and PEP treatment to county residents!
PrEP is a medication offered in a daily pill or bimonthly injection that will protect individuals from contracting HIV.
PEP is the same medication in a higher dose, that must be taken within 3 days of an HIV exposure to be effective.
Nevada County Public Health collects data and maintains records regarding the incidence and prevalence of HIV / AIDS cases in Nevada County. Additionally, the HIV / AIDS surveillance coordinator provides outreach and educational services to health care providers regarding the various reporting requirements, legislative and/or procedural changes. Notice to Health Care Providers and Others Responsible for Disease Reporting:
California Code of Regulations, Title 17, Section 2500 and Section 2643.5 require that all diagnosed cases of AIDS and HIV as defined by CDC must be reported within seven (7) days to the Health Officer. For questions regarding HIV/AIDS reporting requirements or to begin the reporting process via phone you may contact the HIV Surveillance Coordinator at (530)265-1420.
For adult patients over 13 years of age at time of diagnosis, complete the Adult HIV/AIDS Case Report (ACRF): adult-HIV/AIDS-case report form

For pediatric patients under 12 years of age at time of diagnosis, complete the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Confidential Case Report: pediatric-HIV/AIDS-case report form.
Mailing Instructions for Reporting HIV/AIDS
- Double-envelope all HIV/AIDS-related materials.
- Outer envelope (e.g. sender and/or recipient address or label) must have no references to HIV/AIDS.
- Inner envelope shall be marked “Confidential,” sealed, and addressed to Cindy Key, HIV Surveillance.
- All mail must be sent by traceable courier service only, such as FedEx or certified mail.
- E-mailing case information containing personal identifiers is strictly prohibited. Do not e-mail, fax, or send by first-class mail.

The Housing Opportunities for Persons With HIV/AIDS (HOPWA) Program in Nevada County is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the California Office of AIDS. HOPWA funds housing assistance and supportive services designed to reduce or prevent homelessness for persons living with HIV/AIDS. To be eligible for HOPWA services, individuals must be (1) HIV positive, (2) low income as defined by HUD, and (3) be homeless or at risk of being homeless.
