Commons Resource Center 

Partnership in Service 

Nevada County Behavioral Health, in partnership with SPIRIT Peer Empowerment Center has opened the Commons Resource Center- a new community hub dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness through compassionate care, peer support and essential services.  The property is located at 1105 Sutton Way in Grass Valley.  The Commons Resource Center offers day services to Nevada County residents Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The Resource Center is staffed with community providers and Nevada County Behavioral Health Staff who work in partnership providing essential homeless services. There is no overnight housing at this location.

On-Site Behavioral Health Services

The Commons Resource Center offers services and supports for residents who are Medi-Cal members and experiencing serious mental health conditions, or substance use disorders.  Phone: 530-265-5811

  • Substance Use Services- Outpatient treatment, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), case management, individual and group recovery support resources, residential treatment.
  • Mental Health Services- Therapy, psychiatry, medication service coordination, housing and homeless services.
  • Nursing Support- Our Behavioral Health Nurse offers compassionate, on-the-spot care to individuals experience homelessness- providing basic nursing advice, treating minor wounds, and supporting overall well-being.

SPIRIT Center

SPIRIT Center is located within the Commons Resource Center and offers free support to those facing mental health challenges.  Trained peer supporters provide holistic care, fostering recovery through acceptance, education, and empowerment.  Phone: 530-274-4131

  • Support Groups- Over 15 different support groups related to mental health, housing, substance use recovery and building community through fun activities and shared interests.
  • Peer Support- People with similar experiences meeting with one another to help each other overcome life's difficulties.  SPIRIT Peer Supporters are graduates of the SPIRIT PS 101 training and receive ongoing supervision.
  • Activities- We foster a sense of community through engaging activities that promote wellness and bring people together around shared passions.

Additional Services

Nevada County Health and Human Services Agency along with community partners will offer a variety of services on site to assist low-income individuals and families. 

  • Public Assistance- Help enrolling in public assistance programs such as CalFresh (food stamps), cash assistance, and Medi-Cal.
  • Health Vending Machine- Our health vending machine provides an assortment of free health, hygiene items and weather-related items. 
  • Laundry and Showers- The Commons Resource Center offers free usage of showers and laundry facilities for people experiencing homelessness.
