Welcome to the office of Jesse Wilson, Nevada County District Attorney.

Our mission is to provide exemplary legal services to enhance public safety and create a sense of security in the community through vigorous enforcement of the law in a just, honest, efficient, and ethical manner, and, while doing so, to treat all people in a professional, honest, and respectful manner.


Department Overview

The Nevada County District Attorney is located in two offices. One office is in Nevada City. The other office is in Truckee. There is one full-time Deputy District Attorney and a full-time clerical support staff in Truckee. In Nevada City, there are nine full-time Deputy District Attorneys, one part-time Deputy District Attorney and an Assistant District Attorney, one Chief Investigator, four full-time investigators, as well as, a clerical staff of ten who support them. The investigators can also be assigned to Truckee cases.


Election Information

The People elect the District Attorney for a four-year term of office. The staff, with the exception of the Assistant District Attorney, is selected and promoted under Civil Service Rules.


Responsibility

The primary responsibility of the District Attorney's Office is the prosecution of felony and misdemeanor offenses that are referred by law enforcement agencies. Specialized vertical prosecution units have been established to handle Child Abuse, driving under the influence cases, auto theft cases, drug cases, spousal abuse, sexual assault, and Statutory Rape.
