Transfer Stations
Nevada County currently has three operating Transfer Stations in the Western Nevada County located at McCourtney Rd, North San Juan, and in the Town of Washington and one Transfer Station in Eastern Nevada County. For more information on each of the transfer stations is listed below.
McCourtney Road Transfer Station (MRTS)
The McCourtney Road Transfer Station is operated by WM (Waste Management)
Location:
14741 Wolf Mountain Rd, Grass Valley, California
Hours of Operation:
- Monday & Tuesday: CLOSED
- Wednesday – Sunday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Closed on the following Federal Holidays: New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day

- Beverage Recycling Buyback Center (CRV)
- Mattress Drop off (Free)
- C&D (construction & demolition): Rate as noted on rate sheet
- Appliances: Rates as noted on rate sheet
- Household Hazardous Waste/Reuse Area (Free)
State law prohibits transporting more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous materials.
Transport in your trunk or back of truck in spill and leak proof containers, original if possible- Oil and oil filter Recycling
- Household Battery Collection
- Sharps Collection, which includes needles and lancets. Medication is not accepted
- Mercury Products such as fluorescent tubes and bulbs, mercury gauges, electrical switches/relays, pilot light sensor/thermostats
- General Household Hazardous Waste such as paints, solvents, pesticides, cleaners, and much more
Items that are prohibited:
- Marijuana related materials such as plants, clippings, vapes, oils, etc
- Domestic, farm or livestock animals
- Dirt, soil, rock or fines
- Full size vehicles such as cars, trucks, recreational vehicles
- Tree stumps or root balls
- Cylinders of any type or size except propane
- Ammunition, guns, or explosives
- Burned material from structure fire

Solar panels are not accepted at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station. Solar panels can be taken to Recology, 12305 Shale Ridge Road, Auburn CA 95602. If the panels are in working condition, contact Good Sun for the solar panels to be repurposed: www.goodsun.life/

North San Juan Transfer Station
North San Juan Transfer Station is operated by WM (Waste Management)

10125 Flume St, North San Juan, California
Hours of Operation:
Friday to Tuesday 8:30am-5:00pm, closed during lunch from 12:00pm -1:00pm.
Open for Beverage Recycling Buyback on the 3rd Thursday of the Month
Acceptable materials drop off:
Trash, commingled recyclables, used oil & filters, lightbulbs, and batteries.

Washington Transfer Station
Washington Transfer Station is operated by WM (Waste Management)

Hours of Operation:
Friday, Saturday and Monday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Closed from 12-12:30pm

Trash, commingled recyclables, used oil and filters, lightbulbs, and batteries.

Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD)
TTSD operates the Eastern Nevada County Landfill Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and Transfer Station
