Nevada County and its planning partners – Nevada City, Truckee, Grass Valley, Nevada Irrigation District, Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Truckee Donner Public Utility District, Washington County Water District – have spent the last several months updating the multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan. The plan is required by FEMA and encompasses the hazards of avalanche, dam failure, drought, earthquake, extreme cold, extreme heat, flood, hazardous material release, landslide, volcano, wildfire, winter storms.
The planning processes conducted various risk analyses and hazard assessments for each hazard. Overseeing this process were leaders from the county and stakeholders and group working with socially vulnerable groups and communities. The plan includes strategies and action items that will address minimizing the effects of these hazards and is meant to work in concert with other emergency management plans. FEMA has approved the final Nevada County Local Hazard Mitigation Plan, available below.
