Through guidance from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Nevada County PHEP-R Program focuses on the MED/HEALTH element of emergency response. We work hand and hand with health and response partners throughout the county and region to ensure that Nevada County is ready to respond to any medical surge event. MED/HEALTH system resilience is imperative in a community’s overall wellbeing and disaster readiness.
The PHEP-R team is comprised of staff from various public health programs that work together to strengthen our ability to effectively respond to a range of public health threats. We do this through:
- The Department of Operations Center (DOC): a dedicated public health coordination center dedicated to incident management and response during an emergency event.
- Health and Human Services (HHS) Agency collaboration: through our work with the Care and Shelter Microbusiness, the PHEP-R team is able to partner with several departments within HHS to support the activation, set up and staffing of emergency shelters in Nevada County.
- Mass vaccination exercises: in partnership with the Nevada County Immunization Program, the PHEP-R team conducts county-wide response exercises to test our capacity to respond to an event where we need a mass distribution system in place.
The PHEP-R Program activities support the National Response Framework (NRF), which guides how the nation responds to all types of hazards including infectious disease outbreaks; natural disasters; biological, chemical, and radiological incidents; and explosions.
