2025 Nevada County Sustainability Summit

Rural Resilience: Looking to the Future

Nevada and Martis Marks

Background

In the fall of 2022, Supervisor Hardy Bullock teamed up with Scott Bower of Martis Camp and Supervisor Heidi Hall to hold the inaugural Nevada County Sustainability Summit with the goal of elevating local and regional work around conservation and climate action.

In the subsequent spring, Supervisor Bullock and Supervisor Hall were successful in advancing Climate Resilience as a 2023 Board Priority Objective for Nevada County.  The newly elevated objective seeks to "safeguard Nevada County’s economic durability, environmental integrity, and public health and safety by preparing for, adapting to, and mitigating changing climate conditions in a way that reflects our rural quality of life."

Today, Climate Resilience remains as one of Nevada County’s priority objectives. The Ad-Hoc Supervisors guiding the direction of the work are District 4 Supervisor Susan Hoek and District 5 Supervisor Hardy Bullock.

About

The theme of the 2025 Nevada County Sustainability Summit is Rural Resilience: Looking to the Future.

The fourth annual Nevada County Sustainability Summit will bring together numerous climate resilience stakeholders including representatives from local jurisdictions, state and federal public agencies, tribal partners and key regional community organizations. The summit will provide a forum for these stakeholders and partners to share their views on what is needed to make our communities resilient in the face of changing climate conditions, including a focus on our landscapes, our people, and our youth. Please see the program link and bios for additional details on this year’s panelists.

We are encouraged that the information share and networking will inspire collaboration and advance partnerships to scale the efforts and increase the resiliency for the people and places we all love.

This event is proudly sponsored in partnership with Martis Camp, one of North America’s premier private ski and golf resort communities. Located on 2,177 acres in the High Sierra, Martis Camp features world-class amenities including a private ski lodge, a Tom Fazio-designed golf course, extensive trails, parks, dining, and a lakeside Beach Shack.

Martis Camp is widely recognized for its leadership in environmental responsibility. The community has earned multiple awards and certifications for its sustainability, wildfire mitigation, and land stewardship efforts. Its proactive approach has drawn the attention of state and local agencies and serves as a model for responsible mountain communities. This partnership reflects Martis Camp’s ongoing commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the Sierra and supporting initiatives that align with its core values of community, safety, and environmental excellence.
