[ARCHIVED] County of Nevada Office of Emergency Services Launches Ready Nevada County Dashboard

RNC Dashboard

Being Ready Nevada County means being ready for anything and using all the tools available to both prepare for and respond to emergencies in real time. With that goal in mind, the County’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) is proud to share the Ready Nevada County Dashboard to help residents access technology and information for better emergency outcomes. High fire danger, Public Safety Power Shutoffs, and COVID-19 all add to the complexity of emergency planning. Building platforms to share information helps individuals create redundancies in their plan and that can save lives.

Residents are urged to become familiar with the interface and add this tool to their emergency plan. This technology is intended to build upon the Ready Nevada County best practices advocated by OES in the Ready, Set, Go Handbook sent to every household earlier this year.

“This tool provides access to real time data during an emergency and technology to help residents make a plan that works for their specific needs, but everyone should still have a battery-operated radio and 5 Emergency allies. There is no one-size-fits-all emergency plan and technology is only one piece of a complicated puzzle,” says OES Director, Steve Monaghan.

“It might be a power outage, a dog barking or the smell of smoke in the air, it may be a Tweet or an interactive map. We want to make it easier for high tech and old-fashioned common sense to work together in the true spirit of Ready Nevada County. Our team is working hard to make it easier for everyone to stay informed and we welcome the community in becoming part of this ongoing strategy, “adds OES Program Manager, Paul Cummings.

Ready Nevada County Dashboard Features Include:

Wildfire & Evacuation Incident Dashboard: This dashboard provides real time information relating to traffic conditions, fires throughout the entire United States and Red Flag Warnings. During an activation of the County’s Emergency Operations Center, this dashboard will also be updated with information relating to evacuations, sheltering and updates on the status of the fire. Most fires in Nevada County are contained without activating the EOC, but residents should familiarize themselves with the interface before it is needed.

Mark Yourself Safe During an Emergency: This will be a feature of the Wildfire & Evacuation Dashboard available only during evacuations so residents can let law enforcement know they’re safe in the event a family member or friend is wanting to report them missing.

CodeRED Emergency Alerts: These alerts are only used during an emergency. With this function, residents will be able to access the last 5 Code Red Emergency alerts (audio, email & map of affected areas) and there’s a quick link for signing up for CodeRED.

Nixle Everbridge Alerts (Truckee): Provides a running feed from Town of Truckee’s Nixle Everbridge Emergency Alert System.

OES Live Twitter Feed: OES running Twitter feed.

Evacuation Route Pre-Planner: This tab will assist residents with finding potential evacuation routes that they can map, print out and practice driving. If possible, every resident should be familiar with 3 evacuation routes out of their neighborhoods.

Nevada County COVID-19 Dashboard: The County’s COVID-19 dashboard has been embedded for ease of access.

PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoff Resources: PG&E’s PSPS event updates and outage tools website are embedded for ease of access. Residents can go here to learn about planned or current events as well as locate a Community Resource Center near them.

Live Fire Webcams: The Live Fire Webcams feature provides for an interactive experience, via CalOES GIS, with a vast array of camera views throughout CA, NV, OR, WA and ID.

Important Weather Updates: This feature displays the current temperatures, wind direction and speed and allows for forecasts of the same information.

Nevada County Burn Day Status: The Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District’s website is embedded into the dashboard. Here, residents can check the status of burn days and permits for their area.

Feedback Form: Provides a mechanism for the public to provide constructive feedback regarding their experience and any suggestions for improvements they might have.

The Ready Nevada County Dashboard, emergency alert registration, other tools and resources can be found at ReadyNevadaCounty.org. Questions regarding site function can be sent to OES@co.nevada.ca.us or 530-265-1515. Please note, the dashboard works best in browsers like Google Chrome and Firefox.
