[ARCHIVED] 2 Additional Ways to Access the Building Department and the Community Development Agency Are Back

NCCA and Nevada County Staff standing at Building Outpost Desk at NCCA.

The Community Development Agency (CDA) is bringing back out 2 ways to assist you with your permit and application needs. On June 2, CDA relaunched the Over the Counter Wednesday Plan Review Program, which provides plan review services for qualifying projects at prescheduled one-hour appointments with appropriate staff members. On July 7, the Building Department will return to the Building Outpost at the Nevada County Contractor’s Association (NCCA) on Thursday mornings.

"Bringing back these opportunities for staff to collaborate with contractors, homeowners, and NCCA staff is a win-win,” said Building Director Craig Griesbach. "In both cases, we are making our services more accessible and available. My team is ready and looks forward to connecting with customers and their perspective projects at both Over-the-Counter Wednesday at the Rood Center and the Building Outpost at NCCA.”

Over the Counter Wednesday
When:  Wednesdays mornings by appointment
Where: 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City

Appointments: To verify if your project qualifies and schedule an appointment, contact (530) 265-1222, extension 1 or email BuildingDept@co.nevada.ca.us.

CDA welcomes the return of the popular Over The Counter Wednesday Program.  This program allows customers and county staff to work together during the plan review process. Fast-tracking the permit process allows the applicant to walk away with a permit so they can start their project the same day.  To learn more about this program and see if your project qualifies, please visit Over The Counter Wednesday or call or email us (see above).

Building Permit Outpost
When: 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Thursdays
Where: Nevada County Contractor’s Association, 149 Crown Point Court, Suite A, Grass Valley.

Details: (530) 265-1222, extension 1 or email BuildingDept@co.nevada.ca.us.

Starting Thursday, July 7, the Nevada County Community Development Agency’s Building Department (CDA) will be returning to the  Nevada County Contractor’s Association (NCCA).  The Building Outpost will be staffed Thursdays from 830am to 1230pm with the following services: new submittals, over-the-counter permits, project resubmittals, fee estimates, and general questions.

“The Outpost has been a great collaboration between the Contractors’ Association and the County,” said NCCA Executive Director Bre Deschaine. “We can help you navigate the permitting process, refine your design, utilize the plans copy service, and even choose a contractor in one trip.”

The Building Outpost [VDF1] was created by the Nevada County Community Development Agency (CDA) to better collaborate with the community and private businesses and to transform how Building Department services are provided. The Outpost combines many pieces a homeowner needs: the Nevada County Building Department, NCCA, and local development professionals. This location further develops collaboration between the County, NCCA, contractors, and homeowners.

This is an opportunity for community members and contractors to work with the Building Department at another location.  All of these programs intend to enhance customer experience, provide outstanding public service, and streamline processes.

Ways to Work with CDA

  • Apply online through the online permit portal (Accela); this is also a great way to apply and review your permit online.  Some express permits are easier than ever to apply for online and don’t require waiting in line.
  • Walk-ins are welcome from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, except holidays at the CDA Lobby within the Rood Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City.
  • Appointments are encouraged as well to learn more call (530) 265-1222, extension 1, or visit: CDA Book an Appointment.
