The Nevada County “All Veterans” Stand Down is the largest veteran-targeted annual outreach event in our county. The Stand Down is co-hosted by federal, state, county, and local Veterans Service Organizations and non-profits that provide services and resources to homeless and low-income veterans. Unfortunately, the event was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. In October of 2021, in accordance with State and County COVID health and safety guidelines, we held a drive-thru Stand Down at the Grass Valley Veterans Hall. This event was a tremendous success that resulted in 242 veterans receiving information about benefits and services. However, the participants and organizers felt that connection and participation were impacted by the lack of one-on-one and face-to-face interaction.
We are excited to announce that this year the Nevada County “All Veterans” Stand Down will be once again held at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on Friday, October 14th, and Saturday, October 15th. Throughout the day, veterans will have the opportunity to enroll in VA Healthcare, obtain VSP Vouchers to receive a free pair of prescription eyeglasses, receive counseling on benefits available to them by the Nevada County Veterans Services Office (NCVSO), and receive a health screening from the Veterans Hospital Administration. In addition, veterans also receive referrals for health care, housing solutions, employment opportunities, substance use treatment, and many other services.
Doors open at 8 a.m. on Friday, October 14th, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds located at 11228 McCourtney Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95949. The Stand Down is a free event and is open to every veteran in Nevada County. This is a great opportunity for veterans to receive information on the benefits available to them and learn about veteran-specific programs that could lead to employment and education opportunities.
