The Nevada County Executive Office recently hosted Nevada Union senior Logan van den Berg for a three-month internship as part of his senior project. Inspired to pursue a career in government by his grandfather, who was a member of the Sonora City Council for 52 consecutive years, Logan was mentored by County Executive Officer Alison Lehman.
During his 20-hour internship at the Eric Rood Administrative Center, Logan researched the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 election, with a focus on the role of mail-in voting on voter turnout, and interviewed District 3 Supervisor Lisa Swarthout, who offered sage advice to the budding community leader: “Be yourself, be the change, be educated, be motivated, and keep trying.”
Logan will take his newly acquired communication and leadership skills with him to Cal Poly Humboldt in the fall, where he plans to major in Political Science.
“Nevada County is honored to support and sponsor high school seniors with their Senior Projects,” Lehman said. “Congratulations to all of our graduating seniors. We wish you all the best as you start your next chapter.” Students are encouraged to reach out to the County Executive Office by email for more information.
