Nevada City, CA – Nevada County farmers and ranchers are invited to apply for a rebate for five or more tons of compost.
The rebate program is coordinated by Zero Foodprint, a nonprofit with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint of the food industry in California.
The program is open to any interested Nevada County farmer or rancher. To participate, they must first file an application online. Once accepted, they must purchase compost from an approved vendor. Then, they can submit a receipt to collect the rebate for $33 per ton of compost.
The County is offering the program in response to Senate Bill 1383, which requires businesses and governments to divert organic waste away from landfills and instead use composting and other methods to recycle organic waste.
