County Supervisors Heidi Hall and Dan Miller, Grass Valley Mayor Lisa Swarthout and Nevada City Mayor Reinette Senum spoke on Wednesday, November 6th, on local impacts of recent PG&E PSPS events and local government's response, as well as encouraged community support to our local businesses who have experienced severe hardship.
Local County and City jurisdictions have drafted a joint letter to the CPUC outlining the concerns and requesting regulatory actions for electrical utilities including: 1) Ensure cellular and landline communication services are maintained throughout every PSPS event, 2) Provide health and safety amenities, such as access to subsidized generators and oxygen to vulnerable populations and healthcare service providers for each PSPS event, 3) Ensure timely, accurate and consistent communication is provided to all utility customers and community stakeholders to mitigate undue financial hardship to residents and businesses, and 4) Require that PSPS events are targeted as precisely as possible so as to prevent unnecessary power interruption across broad regions. To encourage residents to support local businesses impacted by the recent PSPS events, the Nevada City Chambers, Grass Valley Chambers, Grass Valley Downtown Association and Penn Valley Chambers are hosting Let's Go Out Tonight!, a weekly night on the town every Wednesday through the end of the year. Residents and visitors are encouraged to visit a local restaurant, brewery, winery, bar, specialty shop, movie theatre, or market and support local businesses that have been impacted by the recent power outages.
