[ARCHIVED] Understanding Phases and Tiers

Image of Nevada County Vaccine Update News Flash for Jan 18: Understanding Phases and Tiers

An FDA-approved, no-cost vaccine will be available to everyone in Nevada County--the light at the end of this pandemic tunnel! We are excited and grateful that so many residents are interested in getting vaccinated. It will, however, take months to deliver these two-dose vaccinations to everyone, but we will get there.

The State of California has developed Phases and Tiers to prioritize COVID-19 vaccination across the state. The goal is to distribute COVID-19 vaccine equitably, beginning with those who are most vulnerable. Nevada County is currently moving through these phases as vaccine becomes available. Nevada County Public Health recently created a vaccine schedule on our Vaccine Information page to keep residents up-to-date on which groups are currently being vaccinated. We will continue to update that vaccine schedule as information changes.

Together with local partners, Nevada County Public Health is currently working to vaccinate Phase 1A Tier 1 and Phase 1A Tier 2. We expect to move into the first parts of Phase 1A Tier 3 this week. Vaccination of these first three Tiers will happen concurrently. Once healthcare providers have been vaccinated (Phase 1A), we can move into Phase 1B and begin to vaccinate residents aged 65 years and older.

See the State of California’s vaccine website for more information on the state vaccination plan.

Download Nevada County’s vaccination schedule to learn more about who is currently being vaccinated locally. This is being updated frequently.

Vaccine status in Nevada County as of 1/18/2021:

Groups in Phase 1A Tier 1, and Phase 1A Tier 2 are currently eligible for vaccine in Nevada County. We anticipate starting specific sectors of Phase 1A Tier 3 next week.

The County has received 3,850 vaccines from the state as of January 17th. These come from the federal supply. We anticipate receiving 1,950 more doses in the coming week, bringing our total to 5,800 doses countywide. These numbers do not include vaccine delivered from the state directly to entities such as Dignity Health hospitals and direct partnerships between skilled nursing facilities and pharmacies.

How will I know when it’s my turn?

As we progress through the Tiers, we are working closely with community partners to provide direct outreach to eligible groups when vaccine becomes available. We are extremely grateful to our community partners who are working with us to vaccinate eligible individuals. These processes are very structured and highly coordinated.

Nevada County Public Health anticipates formally moving into Phase 1B by February 1st. This Phase includes many sectors, including residents aged 65 and older. In Nevada County, that means more than 28,000 residents will become eligible in Phase 1B alone. Public Health is working with local and state partners to establish vaccination sites to distribute vaccines to these residents as vaccine becomes available.

To stay up-to-date on local vaccine information:

  • Bookmark our COVID-19 vaccination page at www.MyNevadaCounty.com/Coronavirus/Vaccine and check back regularly
  • Text VACCINEINFO to 898211 to receive text updates from Public Health straight to your smartphone
  • Call 211 or 1-833-DIAL211 to speak to a local call specialist anytime day or night

The team here at Nevada County Public Health is grateful to our community for your eagerness to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Vaccination is an essential tool for ending this pandemic. We must all stay vigilant and continue to wear masks, keep our distance, wash our hands, and avoid gatherings so that we can return to a more normal way of life as quickly as possible.
