Naloxone / Narcan Available at No-Cost

Naloxone is a drug used to reverse an opioid overdose, including overdoses due to fentanyl. It is available without a prescription. After a quick training, anyone can administer naloxone to another person who has overdosed on opioids. Naloxone is available for free in Nevada County.

Naloxone & Fentanyl Test Strips – Free in Nevada County

Nevada County Public Health is committed to supporting our community by offering free and anonymous access to naloxone and fentanyl test strips.

Public Health offers free Naloxone and Fentanyl Test Strips located in Health Supply Vending Machine locations:

  • Brighton Greens: 988 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM).

  • Crown Point Facility: 500 Crown Point Circle, Grass Valley (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM).

  • Western Sierra Medical Clinic: 10532 Spenceville Road, Penn Valley (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM).

  • Community Center: 29190 CA-49, North San Juan (follows Community Center hours).

  • Joseph Center: 10075 Levon Avenue, Truckee (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM).

Naloxone from Pharmacies:

Naloxone is available at most pharmacies without a prescription. Pricing typically ranges from $125–$150. Check with local pharmacies like Walgreens or Rite Aid in Grass Valley for availability.

Community Distribution & Training:

Do you know a group in need of naloxone? We can help. Public Health offers training and group naloxone distribution at neutral locations. Call or text (530) 388-6364 to learn more.

Become a Naloxone Distributor

Local organizations can apply to distribute naloxone under California’s standing order.

  1. Step 1: Organization applies for approval from CDPH to become a point of distribution under the state's standing order. Information on that application process here

    Step 2: Once approved by CDPH, the organization applies to DHCS for a supply of naloxone to distribute. Apply to DHCS for your naloxone supply here.
