Board Objective
Coordinate with local jurisdictions, developers, and other partners to facilitate development of and access to affordable and workforce housing development.
The Challenge
Facilitating development of housing is a highly collaborative objective that creates both opportunities and challenges for Nevada County, including:
- Collaborating with local jurisdictions, stakeholders, and developers to understand and develop housing options
- Increasing stock of affordable, subsidized, and supportive housing options
- Making affordable projects financially feasible by leveraging State and Federal funding sources
- Adapting to the needs of the community to provide innovative housing opportunities to Nevada County’s low income and most vulnerable resident populations
County Initiatives
- Work with state agencies to apply for and be competitive for funding opportunities for developing or maintaining housing
- Facilitate and promote partnerships between local jurisdictions, stakeholders, and developers for the development of affordable and supportive housing
- Implement a centralized Landlord Liaison Program (LLP) to provide additional support to landlords renting to individuals who have been homeless or are at risk of homelessness
- Strengthen navigation based, interim housing options for vulnerable residents
