Transit Projects
Project Overview
As the first step in transitioning the transit fleet to zero emissions, the Transit Department has purchased two Gillig 35’ battery electric buses. To allow charging of the electric buses, the County will install ChargePoint Express Plus plug-in chargers at the Nevada County Operations Center (NCOC) and InductEV inductive chargers at the Tinloy St. Transit Center. and will provide plug-in charging for the initial two electric buses. The NCOC Phase-1 project also installs infrastructure in the ground to allow for future charging expansion for up to 12 buses.
Current Status
Construction will start in June 16, 2025 and estimated to end on Sept. 3.
To minimize disruption during the construction phase, Nevada County Connects buses will shift slightly, and service will remain available. Information regarding the temporary bus stop location will be available at the current transit center. Nevada County Connects will provide updates on any potential impacts to transit services.
While minimal impacts are anticipated, please be aware that there may be minimal traffic delays, and follow the instructions of crew members working in the area.
Special Notices
The existing bus stop at Tinloy St. Transit Center will be temporarily relocated during construction. It will remain on Tinloy St. moved to the other side of Bank St. in front of the Gold Miners Inn.
Schedule
Phase-1 of the electric bus charging project at the NCOC was constructed in the Summer of 2023, while Phase-2 of the project at the Tinloy St. Transit Center is scheduled to begin in June 2025 and will provide three contactless electric bus chargers for en-route charging.

Project Overview
The Transit Services Bus Wash project is to construct an automated bus wash for maintenance of the Nevada County Connects buses. The wash is to be located at the Nevada County Operations Center (NCOC) at 12350 LaBarr Meadows Rd, in Grass Valley.
While its main purpose is to keep the County's transit bus fleet clean efficiently, this automated wash will be able to clean vehicles ranging in size from a small car to Kenworth T800 truck. The wash will be programmed to provide a customized wash for each type of vehicle in the County fleet, with one of the main options being whether brush or touchless washing is used. The bus wash will recycle approximately 85% of the water used in washing vehicles.
Adjacent to the automated wash is a covered bay for de-mudding and interior cleaning. This bay features hot-water pressure washers for cleaning of very dirty trucks, snow plowing equipment, and construction equipment. This bay also provides a covered area with water and power to allow efficient cleaning of bus interiors.
Schedule
There is currently no schedule available.
Current Status
The project has completed design. Construction status is TBD.
Funding
The design is funded by a California Department of Transportation, Division of Rail and Mass Transit grant.
Environmental Review
While there was no formal environmental review required, the wash is environmentally friendly recycling approximately 85% of the water used in the washing of vehicles.
