Substance Use Services

We provide withdrawal management, residential, outpatient, and perinatal treatment; transitional living and prevention services. Additional services are provided for individuals with both mental illness and substance use disorders who are Medi-Cal beneficiaries. We also provide outpatient drug and alcohol services for youth.

We engage in collaborative Treatment Courts with the criminal justice system to provide treatment to individuals with substance use disorders. These include Adult Drug Court and Prop 36 Court. Our collaborative drug diversion programs also include PC1000 and DUI. Drug and Alcohol Prevention is focused on youth and delivered through educational and support models.

Prevention

Friday Night Live (FNL) and Club Live (CL) chapters are available on junior high and high school campuses in Nevada County. Membership is free and open to any young person. FNL and CL chapters create meaningful projects that focus on making permanent change around alcohol, tobacco, other drugs or violence (ATODV) prevention. Being a part of FNL or CL allows young people to address social issues most important to them, while making lasting friendships with others throughout Nevada County.

The Nevada County FNL Partnership has been providing alcohol and drug prevention programs since 1985. A growing body of evidence shows that providing young people with strong youth development supports and opportunities can help them avoid problems such as substance abuse, violence, school drop-out and attain positive outcomes in adolescence and adulthood. Young people need opportunities to develop competencies and skills to ready themselves for work, adult life and relationships and connection to community in order to thrive. Today our program serves over 135 youth participating in various projects and partnerships through the County.

Know Overdose Nevada County is a local campaign to increase knowledge and awareness about drug overdose risks and harm reduction strategies to help prevent overdoses and deaths. Like many other communities across the state and country, Nevada County has seen an increase in overdose deaths in the past few years. This has largely been a result of synthetic opioids, particularly fentanyl, entering the local drug supply. Our diverse coalition of community supporters believes improving access to information and resources and increasing awareness of harm reduction strategies are an important part of reversing this trend and preventing overdose deaths.

Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System

The Federal Government has agreed to pay California Counties for increased Drug and Alcohol treatment services. In order for Nevada County to benefit from this expansion in services we needed to submit a Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System (DMC-ODS) Implementation Plan to the State and Federal Government stating how we will increase the quantity and quality of local Substance Use treatment. The Nevada County Behavioral Health Department submitted its DMC-ODS Implementation Plan to the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) on July 19th, 2017 and received approval on October 26th, 2017. The DMC-ODS provides a continuum of care modeled after the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria for substance use disorder treatment services. It enables more local control over the substance use treatment services that are available in the community and increases the accountability of all providers. As the next step the Implementation Plan will be reviewed by the Federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and must be approved before Nevada County can begin the process of opting into the DMC-ODS.
