Immigrant Rights and Services

The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has created a variety of materials to educate the community and prepare individuals for possible encounters with immigration authorities.

  • Printable red cards in eight languages to distribute to community members
  • A downloadable, fillable, and printable Family Preparedness Plan with guidance on completing a family preparedness plan

You have the constitutional rights to:

  • Not open the door if an immigration agent is knocking. If you are inside of your house, show the card through the window or slide it under the door.
  • Not answer any questions from an immigration agent if they try to talk to you. You have the right to remain silent.
  • Not sign anything without first speaking to a lawyer. You have the right to speak with a lawyer.
  • If you are outside of your house, show your red card to the agent. Ask the agent if you are free to leave and if they say you can, leave calmly.

Scams and Fraud

If you need help with immigration legal services, be cautious of scams. Avoid anyone who refers to themselves as a "notario" when offering these services. If you receive messages on social media or WhatsApp claiming to be from a legal services organization, contact the organization directly to verify that the message was real. Remember, any immigration fees you pay to USCIS should only be done through their official website or official dropboxes.
